Taking Supplements

To get the best results from nutritional supplements it is important to consider a few things:

  • what are you wanting to achieve? Is it more energy, better sleep, a calmer outlook or are you treating a specific health consultation? It’s helpful to understand the actions of specific nutrients and how to use them for the best results.
  • What is the right type for you? And the right dose? Certain nutrients come in a variety of forms - for example magnesium - some magnesiums are best for muscle aches and pains, others are better for sleep and hormone support.
  • Should the supplement be taken long term? Some supplements and nutrients are safe for long term use, others are best taken for a short time or until your symptoms improve.
  • Are you taking prescription medication? Some vitamins and minerals will interact or interfere with prescription medications. Others can support your medications or help with the side effects you might experience.

    Hi John,
It sound like you need support with your sleep cycle. Magnesium supplements can help with going to sleep, but you may need other nutrients to help you stay asleep. Melatonin can be helpful and you can take this homoeopathically alongside your current supplements. Herbal medicines can also be supportive, such as Valerian, hops and chamomile. Pop in or contact us in store and we can discuss your individual needs and find the right supplement for you.

    Hi Niki,

Thanks for the article, I am currently finding it hard to stay asleep at night – I can get to sleep just fine, but will wake up a few hours after going to sleep and find it impossible to get back to sleep. I am currently taking the go healthy magnesium sleep tablets 1 hour before bed. Do you have any other suggestions?

    Warm Regards,
    John
